Dr. Laura A. Linebarger

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Laura Linebarger is a graduate of the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Chicago, Illinois.  She obtained a masters and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology with concentration in Psychoanalytic Psychology.

Dr. Linebarger has gained experience in several different settings throughout her career.  She began conducting learning and attention assessments for adolescents and young adults at the Paul Simon Chicago Job Corps.  From there, she began working with LGBTQ issues and people with addictions in the Valeo program at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital. She has also worked at the Northwestern University Counseling and Psychological Services center where she worked with young adults in a college counseling setting.  Currently, Dr. Linebarger is employed with University of Louisville, Psychiatry Department with a research study on depression and is in private practice in Louisville’s east end.

Dr. Linebarger is licensed in the state of Illinois as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.  She is a Licensed Psychologist in Kentucky.

Prior to graduate school, Dr. Linebarger worked as a foster home developer, writing home studies, and as an associate clinical director for an employee assistance program.

We can also make financial arrangements regarding paying for sessions or copays.  If you are in need of this, please discuss it during your first appointment.

Training and education should be engaging, interesting and directly applicable to the individual’s job.  Dr. Linebarger has extensive experience providing training using components that suit visual, audio, tactile and experiential learners.  Her philosophy of teaching is to provide a shorter lecture portion alongside opportunities to apply the information through activities and hands-on exercises.  She is knowledgeable on the different learning styles within any one group and adapts to her audience to create a fun and personally applicable learning experience.

She has a menu of presentations that can be tailored for your group or can build custom presentation based the specific needs of your organization.  The presentations are customizable for length of time and audience.  Previous utilization of this service has included “Lunch & Learns” for continuing education, community mental health organizations, hospitals, student groups, school staff and teachers, community outreach, clinical populations, and staff education and training.

  • Trainer with the American Psychological Association’s (APA) HIV Office of HIV Education (HOPE) offering very low cost APA-sponsored continuing education credits.
  • Experience spanning hospital/treatment center, student mental health agency, community mental health and university counseling center settings
  • Expertise in the substance abuse, eating disorders and behavioral addictions field through all phases of assessment, treatment and after care
  • Specialty with groups and group therapy as a leader and supervisor
  • Proficiency in psychological testing with an emphasis in adults and teens including mood, behavior, ADHD and learning disability assessments as well as bariatric evaluation

We are in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of Brownsboro and Lime Kiln in the Glenridge Office Complex, near Ballard High School and Holiday Manor Shopping Center.  Once you arrive, enter the door marked “East End Psychology” and go through the frosted glass door into the waiting room.  On the left, there is a panel of light switches.  Flip the switch (in the opposite direction of its current position) marked “Linebarger” to let me know you’ve arrived.
